Terms of use

These terms apply to everyone who uses cars.je. By using the site you accept them. Last updated 9 October 2026.

1. What cars.je is

cars.je is an independent information website for people buying a car in Jersey, run by the owner of cars.je. It lists vehicles that Jersey dealers advertise on their own websites and vehicles listed by private sellers, with prices, price histories and comparisons.

cars.je is a listing and information service. It is not a dealer, agent or broker. It doesn't own, inspect or hold any vehicle, take deposits, arrange finance or insurance, and it is not a party to any sale. Any contract to buy a vehicle is between you and the seller.

2. Listings and their accuracy

• Dealer listings show the basic details of each vehicle as published by the dealer on its own website, with a link to the dealer's advert. Our automated reader checks dealers' websites twice a day; every vehicle page shows when it was last checked.
• We don't check the details. They may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and a vehicle may have been sold or changed price since our last check. The seller's own advert, and what the seller tells you, is what counts.
• We don't promise that any listing is accurate, complete or available. Before you buy, confirm the price, mileage, specification, history, condition, ownership, outstanding finance and warranty with the seller, and inspect the vehicle.
• If you spot a mistake, report it. We aim to correct errors within one working day.

3. Estimates, comparisons and guides

Some information is worked out by cars.je, not taken from the seller, and is marked Automated estimate: fuel and body type classification, price comparisons ("against similar cars", the price guide, middle prices), price histories and the rough monthly cost.

• Comparisons and the price guide are worked out from asking prices. They are not valuations and ignore condition, mileage, specification and warranty.
• The monthly cost is a simple loan sum, not a finance quote or offer.
• Guides are general information about Jersey rules and costs, with links to official sources. They are not legal, financial, tax or insurance advice, and rules and fees change. Check the official source before you rely on them.

4. Private sellers

If you list a vehicle on cars.je:

• You confirm that you own it or are authorised to sell it, that it is in Jersey, that the details are true and complete, and that you have told us about any outstanding finance you know of.
• You confirm that the photos are yours or that you have the right to share them, and you give cars.je a free licence to show, resize and publish them, with your details, while the listing is up.
• You are responsible for your listing and for the sale. You must tell buyers about faults you know of.
• We check listings before they go live and may edit, refuse or remove any listing without giving a reason, for example if it looks misleading, is a trade sale, or the vehicle can't be identified.
• A listing stays up for 60 days, or until you mark it sold or removed with the link we email you. Its photos are then deleted from our site.
• Listing is free for now. If we introduce a fee, we'll say so on the "Sell your car" page before it applies; listings already live stay free.

We haven't seen or inspected privately listed vehicles. Buyers: see the vehicle and its documents in person before paying anything.

5. Messages to private sellers

When you message a private seller through cars.je, we pass your message to the seller by email. We may block messages that look like spam, fraud or abuse, but we don't edit messages and aren't responsible for what users write to each other or for the outcome.

6. Advertising

Paid placements are always labelled "Featured" or "Advert". They affect only where something is shown, never the details, price histories or comparisons we show. An advert is not a recommendation. Advertisers are responsible for their adverts being accurate and lawful. We may refuse or remove any advert. We don't promise any number of visitors or results. Separate terms apply to paid advertising and are agreed when it's booked.

7. Acceptable use

Don't use cars.je to break the law, to send spam or abuse, to post false or misleading listings or messages, or to imply a connection with cars.je that doesn't exist. Don't attack the site or put it under automated load that affects the service. We may block access that does.

8. Intellectual property

The design, text, software, guides and our own calculations on cars.je belong to the owner of cars.je. Vehicle photos and descriptions belong to the dealers and private sellers who published them, and are credited to them; cars.je claims no rights in them. Makes, models and dealers' names are trademarks or names of their owners, used only to describe the vehicles listed. Listing a dealer's vehicles doesn't mean the dealer endorses cars.je or has an arrangement with us, unless we say so.

9. Complaints, corrections and notices

Send any complaint, correction or legal notice, including a notice about intellectual property, to info@dot.je or through our contact form. Say what the content is (with its web address), what's wrong, and who you are.

• Errors: we aim to correct a listing within one working day of being told.
• Material uploaded by private sellers: if you tell us it infringes your rights, we tell the seller within one working day and remove it by the second working day; the seller may send a counter-notice. We remove listings of people who repeatedly infringe.
• Dealers' photos: a dealer who asks us in writing to stop showing its photos will have them replaced with a placeholder, and our stored copies deleted, within two working days.
• Factual listings: we don't remove accurate listings of vehicles that a business is publicly advertising for sale. We correct inaccurate ones.

10. Our liability

We provide cars.je free of charge, "as is", and may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it.

So far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of cars.je, from relying on any listing, estimate, comparison or guide, from a listing being unavailable, or from any dealings with a seller, buyer or advertiser. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss.

Where you pay us for a service (such as a featured listing or an advert), our total liability to you in connection with it is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that can't be excluded or limited under Jersey law.

11. Changes, law and courts

We may change these terms; the version on this page at the time you use the site applies. These terms are governed by the law of Jersey, and the Royal Court of Jersey has jurisdiction over any dispute.
