Dealer listings on cars.je are based on the adverts Jersey dealers publish on their own websites, listed below. Private sellers list their own vehicles.
How the information is gathered
Twice a day an automated reader visits the public stock pages of the websites below, following each site's robots.txt, and records the basic details of each vehicle advertised: make, model, year, price, mileage, fuel, gearbox, body and colour, with a link to the advert. Every vehicle page names the dealer, shows when the advert was last checked, and links to it for the full description. The seller's advert is the one that counts.
Photos belong to the dealers and are credited to them. So that pages load quickly, cars.je saves small resized copies of up to six photos per vehicle while it is advertised, to identify the vehicle, and deletes them when it is no longer advertised. A dealer who asks us in writing to stop showing its photos will have them replaced with a placeholder within two working days: see complaints and notices.
Price histories, price drops, "against similar cars" and the price guide are worked out by cars.je from these checks. They are our calculations, not the dealers' figures, and they are estimates.
