How cars.je works
cars.je is an independent information website for people buying a car in Jersey. It brings together what Jersey dealers and private sellers are asking for their cars, so buyers can compare the market in one place. It is not run by or for dealers.
Where the cars come from
Twice a day, in the morning and the afternoon, cars.je reads the public stock pages of Jersey dealers' websites and records the basic details of each vehicle advertised: make, model, year, price, mileage, fuel, gearbox and photos (small copies, kept only while the vehicle is advertised). When a car is no longer on a dealer's site, it comes off cars.je, usually within a day. Private sellers list their own cars, and we check each one before it goes live.
We don't sell cars, take deposits or arrange finance. Every vehicle links to its page on the seller's site, which has the full description, specification and history.
What we can't promise
The details are as published on the dealers' websites, which are sometimes out of date or wrong. A car may have been sold since our last check, a price may have changed, or a dealer's site may say "automatic" when it's a manual. Always check the details, the history and the condition with the seller before you buy.

What is automatic
Some parts of cars.je are worked out by our software rather than taken from the seller's advert, and are marked Automated estimate:
- Fuel, body type and where the make is from: sorted automatically from the dealer's listing (rules, with new cars checked by an AI model daily). Occasionally wrong.
- Price over time and "Reduced": from our checks of each dealer's site. If a dealer's site changes or a check fails, a change can be missed or mistimed.
- Against similar cars and the price guide: calculated from today's asking prices. They ignore mileage, condition and spec.
- Rough monthly cost: a simple loan sum, not a finance offer.
- Help me choose and the vehicle counts: from the same automatic sorting.

Price history and comparisons
Because cars.je checks each dealer's site regularly, it can show when a car's price has gone down since we first saw it, and how a car's asking price compares with similar ones on sale in Jersey at the moment. These are guides, not valuations: mileage, condition, specification and warranty all make a difference.
Independence and advertising
cars.je is paid for by advertising. Local businesses can buy a banner, and dealers can pay to have a car shown first in results or in the Featured row. Paid placements are always labelled "Featured" or "Advert", and they change only where a car is shown, never what we say about it: prices, price histories and comparisons are the same for every seller. Dealers don't pay to be listed and can't pay to be left out of comparisons.
